Recently had the awesome opportunity to do a Q& A session with Helikon Gallery & Studios. Many thanks to them for thinkin’ of me and a really big shout out to Emily Moore for putting it together, who very much rocks as an artist herself and if you haven’t seen her work then get yourself some enlightenment here!
Here’s a new personal piece I’ve recently finished just for fun after being loosely inspired by ‘the fool’ Tarot Card. You might have caught an early glimpse of these bandits at their little debut this past weekend at RMCAD’s Watertower Art + Craft Market before they slinked off again ;)
Had a blast yesterday at RMCAD’s Watertower Art + Craft Market! Amazing group of artists and got the chance to scoop up lots of goodies from my fellow alums :D! Thanks to everybody that braved the heat in coming out! Can’t wait for next years!
Getting booth ready for the Watertower Art + Craft Market tomorrow from 10-4p thrown by my alma mater Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. If your in the area stop by and say hi I’ll be selling prints of a brand new illustration and lots of arty goodies with many other amazing artists!
A Commission for Red Tempest Media for a cover art project illustrating classic Fairy Tales. This is the first for Pinocchio which will later be animated by Red Tempest, which I’m super eager to see! More fairy tales to follow
Saw the new x-men..soo good!! Glad to see Bryan Singer back at it, big improvement. And I gotta say Evan Peters stole the show for me, loved him in American Horror Story but as Quicksilver he’s now my favorite everything, so I had to do some celebratory fan art!
sketchdump! practicing some new brushes and textures I’ve made, always lookin to see how traditional I can make digital look
made a life-sized paper reproduction of the Paiche fish coming soon to our seafood department. The fish is literally a real life water dragon….which inevitably lead to the chalk below
playing around with different styles of characters and digital brushes, so not sure where these two fit into a story just yet
I’m sorry it feels like I’ve disappeared from tumblr for a bit but to prove I haven’t yet turned into a ghost here’s a massive stream of photos to show what I’ve been up to. I’m excited to say I’ve gotten a new job with Whole Foods Market working as the Highlands Ranch Associate Graphic Artist! Above are some of the chalk art I’ve finished around the store so far. It has been a whole lotta fun and I can’t wait to share more of the projects I work on there with you!
some color study and digital color technique sketches
the first was based on this photo, and the second this photo
My contribution to valentine’s day this year I decided to design a card and try out a little simple photoshop animation. I’m not the mushiest person when it comes to this holiday so I thought what else could be romantic….heart stealing pirates :)
Got a chance to put up my work at a local Library. Can’t go wrong being sandwiched between books and a cafe :D!
hey, just found your blog and it is very inspiring! how do you go about getting your work out there? how did you start?
Hi Rachel its so nice to hear you think so! I’d say I’m still very much learning how to get my art out there :) I started a while ago while I was in High School by entering my work into art shows at my school and wherever I could find them in my community like the library and so on, it was also when I got started on deviantART where I liked just putting up work for fun to see what others thought and because I enjoyed looking at everyones else work and wanted to give it a shot. I also am very thankful that I had the opportunity to go to an art college that gave me the chance to get to know other artists and pick there brains about what they were doing. Really only recently besides deviantART have I been posting my work more and more online. The industry seems to keep morphing into more tech sharing of art than anything else. However you do it though just by getting it out there I believe really helps to motivate to create more. If I don’t have a client and am just creating work for myself having someplace to post my art and talk to others about it is helping in improving it and inspiring me to do more. My favorite places online are still deviantART, and also Behance, facebook, pinterest and definitely here on tumblr. And I’m sure there’s tons more I haven’t even heard of popping up everyday on the internet. But I still think its important to stay in touch with people offline and make connections with art communities or club/groups around you in person, which I definitely need to improve on myself. Hope this was helpful and not so rambly :) good luck and send me a link to your work I’d love to check it out!
